Girls on the Run is seeking Volunteers for GOTR Memphis Spring 2022 5k!

Girls on the Run now Recruiting Coaches and Program Participants

Are you looking for a unique and empowering way to serve the Memphis community? Girls on the Run Memphis is recruiting coaches and program participants for Spring 2022 to help girls unlock their fullest potential.

The finish line is just the beginning.

Girls on the Run (GOTR) is a nonprofit organization that inspires elementary and middle school-aged girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running. This program is led by volunteer coaches who are mentors committed to the holistic development of young girls. Through GOTR programming, girls gain a stronger sense of identity, greater self-acceptance, a healthier body, and what it means to be part of a team.

Girls on the Run targets the development of the WHOLE girl through mind, body, and spirit. Young girls are faced with constant social pressures on how they should act and who they should be. Coaches use physical activity and dynamic discussion to build every girl’s social, emotional, and physical skills. Alongside coaches, girls explore topics and participate in activities that empower them to understand and value their physical and mental health.

“The program plays a vital role in the positive development of young girls. They can explore and expand on life lessons we teach. They really understand that being a girl is powerful, and they have control over their own thoughts and feelings.” – Coach Angela Graves

Since its inception, the organization has served over 650 girls at approximately 14 program sites including local parks, community centers, and public, private and charter schools. Each season the program culminates in a celebratory 5K, which gives the girls a tangible sense of accomplishment.

GOTR serves the greater Memphis area and Fayette, Shelby, Desoto, and Tipton Counties. They bring their social and emotional programming to girls ages 8-13, 2x a week for eight weeks from February 28-May 1.

Don’t worry if you aren’t a natural born runner, the only requirement is to be enthusiastic and committed to giving the girls a safe space to connect with peers, build confidence, and stay physically active!

Coach Applications are currently being accepted now through Feb 2nd at GOTRMemphis.org/coach. This opportunity is open to all genders, backgrounds, and abilities ages 16+.

The cost for the entire season is $150 per student. That fee includes a t-shirt, water bottle, cinch sack, program journal, and the 5K entry. Financial assistance is available, and no girl will be turned away for an inability to pay the full amount.

Girls on the Run is a great organization to give your time to whether you volunteer, coach, or sign up a promising young one!
