YouTube Taps Into Memphis’ Musical Community

YouTube Music wants to help youth in Memphis make the most of their talents!

So, they’ve joined forces with UNAPOLOGETIC. and Memphis Slim Collaboratory to provide an immersive, online opportunity for young folks to foster their creative futures.

“For this Future Insiders program, we want to empower young creatives here in Memphis to use their gifts and talents to lean into an entrepreneurial spirit,” said UNAPOLOGETIC. President Kid Maestro.

The Future Insiders Program is a free, 4-day course that gives young adults access to insight and information provided by successful music artists and industry experts.

Powered by the #YouTubeBlackVoices Fund—a multi-year $100 million dollar dedication to amplifying and developing the voices of Black creators and artists and their stories—leaders within our local arts ecosystem are able to tap even further into the potential that’s already widely present in Memphis’ music community.

“Memphis contains limitless Black creativity and is foundational to the richness that is Black culture globally. We deeply recognize the value of investing in this region and its talent.”

From March 21st-March 24th, Memphians aged 18-26, are invited to log in and learn the tricks of the trade.

Honing in on topics like Building and Sustaining Brand Partnerships, Music Industry 101, Fashion & Styling, Songwriting, and more the programming is put in place to empower the next generation of aspiring artists—which is an aim that the members of UNAPOLOGETIC. and MSC know all too well.

Since 2014, Memphis Slim Collaboratory has provided artist amenities—such as discounted rehearsal and event space—to attract, support, and retain all who are, or aspire to be, involved in the music industry within the greater Memphis area.

Similarily, since 2015, UNAPOLOGETIC. has acted as an agency for artists who create and cultivate an atmosphere of vulnerability and individuality.

“Programs like Future Insiders are so important in an ever-changing, creative industry,” said IMAKEMADBEATS, UNAPOLOGETIC. Founder. Getting Gen Z-ers connected with people actually doing things… that’s how you do it. Talking to people with lived experience is the way to go.”
