Who is Goldie Rebel? Memphis Hip-Hop Artist Launches Latest Mixtape, Hosts Official Release Show at Hi Tone Cafe

When you start his latest tape, titled Who TF is Goldie Rebel?, it only takes about 14 seconds to find out. Right from the jump, the track I Do (Intro) features that familiar Memphis baseline and snare that hit you square in the face while Goldie flows smoother than the Mississippi River or the rollers at East End Skating Center.

“Sonically, I incorporate legends like 8Ball & MJG and Project Pat who laid the foundation for all of us in my records,” Goldie said. “You hear it in the beats and in what I talk about. Combine all of that with the pain you get from me and you have that authentic Memphis soul. Nobody else in the city is doing it like me right now, it’s unique.”

Goldie’s Who TF is Goldie Rebel? dropped at the end of June and has been bumping on my playlists ever since. The 14-track mixtape does it all, and hits every mood; the bouncing cadence on Lord Knows is your next late night, ride-with-the-windows-down kind of recording. Blueberry Blues, featuring Jai Musiq, may have you pulling up to your ex’s house, and if the intro track I Do doesn’t have you and your homies bobbing your heads then something’s wrong. When you listen to Goldie, you’ll hear a true rebel rally call in the midst of a Memphis renaissance – a sound that’s fresh and new, but feels like Memphis through and through.
