Hunker Down: Where to Go to Get Work Done in Memphis

Take a break from your home office, and check out some cool places to study or work in Memphis. From Collierville to Arlington to Midtown to Whitehaven, this list includes spots all over town.

Every now and then it’s good to take it back to the basics. The Central Library, located on Poplar near East High School, is a great place to catch up on some assignments and tasks. Its central location makes it the perfect middle ground to meet up with colleagues and study buddies. The public wi-fi, computers, and printing availability also makes the library an essential work location.

City and State, a local coffee shop which also doubles as a cute boutique, is located in the Broad Avenue Arts District. If you’re looking for a chic work spot, this is your place.

The Hub

The Hub, located in East Memphis inside of Mission Church, is a charming coffee shop that is perfect for studying and working. Between the beautiful decor, background music, and friendly staff, you’re sure to have an amazing experience. The shop sells many types of coffee, including hot and iced lattes, hot chocolate, smoothies, and more. Stop by the shop Monday through Saturday for an experience like no other. 

The Conference Room is also available for booking -> $25 an hour to use the space 

MEMPHIS CHESS CLUB

If you’ve streamed The Queen’s Gambit on Netflix, we bet you and Beth Harmon would get a kick out of the Memphis Chess Club, located Downtown. It’s the perfect cozy corner to take care of that to-do list, and to flex your chess skills—or build upon them if you don’t have them already!

MEMPHIS Rox

You don’t need to be an expert rock climber to hang at Memphis Rox. It’s a great spot to chill and get work done—plus, they have their own juice bar Juice Almighty where you can get smoothies, sammiches, and more!

MoQana Yemeni Coffee

MoQana opened its doors in late 2024 and is home to delicious Yemeni coffee and treats with great spaces for hunkering down. Located in Cordova, this place is perf for our out of the loop peeps.

Otherlands Coffee Bar

Coffee, bagels, and a study vibe like no other. Otherlands Coffee Bar is a local favorite for many, located near Midtown, only minutes from Christian Brothers University. With comfy seating throughout the shop, year-round patio seating available, and tasty snacks and drinks to keep you fueled, you’ll be able to hunker down here for hours. 

Shelby Farms Park

As one of the largest urban parks in the country, and a local staple, Shelby Farms Park is a perfect place to pull up if you’re one who’s inspired by the beauty of nature. With peaceful lakes and numerous sitting areas, Shelby Farms is a great place to consider. 

Square Beans Coffee

Located in Collierville, Square Beans Coffee is an independent coffee shop that specializes in specialty coffee. This cozy corner has everything you need: free wifi, iced coffee, smoothies, turnovers, macarons, and much more.

Ramblin’ Joes

Let Tom Lee Park be your muse. There are quiet corners and lots of seating — and always a wide open river view. If you need to get the blood flowing to spice up creativity, there’s tons of sports equipment available to check out for free. Hammocks and adirondack chairs overlooking the Mississippi River are places to relax and be inspired. And there are hot dogs, brats, strangely good cookies at the Hi Neighbor Cafe and Ben and Jerry’s ice cream in case a growling stomach is distracting from all that work.
