Alexis Miché: Painting the Canvas She Was Given

A visual artist born and raised here in Memphis, Alexis Miché is moving in what God gave her. Whether it be abstract painting, line drawings or digital art, it’s told through her unique perspective.

“Most of my artwork is centered around my spirituality, women empowerment and youth development. I strive to be a positive influence in the world and serve as the light that God created me to be.”

With an already impressive portfolio that includes exhibits at Art Basel Miami, creating artwork for LeBron James, and now a collaboration with the Memphis Grizzlies on March 16th, it all feels like it’s apart of the vision she’s watching unfold right before her eyes.

“I’ve been doing art ever since I could pick up a crayon. In second grade, I used to draw on the back of all my tests, which caught the attention of my teachers and parents. I was a visual learner all throughout school and doodled in class to help me pay attention. Art is my life. It’s always been a part of me. I remember vividly sitting on my floor drawing one day, and God showed me a vision of my life. Over the past 20 years I’ve been holding onto that vision, watching it unfold right before my eyes..”

“My mission is to walk in God’s purpose for me and change the world through my art. I want this “Childlike Faith” concept to make a global impact.”

Her collaboration with the Memphis Grizzlies makes her the 1st woman to have a 191 Collab with the Grizzlies, a program that partners with local designers and artists giving them the opportunity to design a collection in partnership with the Grizzlies. Her collection titled Childlike Faith, isn’t just a title, it’s truly a representation of her life.

“It’s an honor to be partnering with my hometown and childhood favorite NBA team! It’s also special to be the first woman participating in the 191 Collabs, especially since my art cultivates women empowerment. The “Childlike Faith” collection is a representation of my life journey as I navigate through the challenges of chasing my dreams. In 2020, I quit my full time job to pursue my art career. Of course my parents thought I was crazy, And maybe I was a little delusional… but I had to take that leap of faith to fulfill the passion burning inside of me.”

In her collection, it’s easy to see her signature style through the vibrant color palette, bold strokes, shapes and line illustrations. From the collection title logo itself being an ode to the next generation and even the Crown seen on every item has a special meaning.

“The crown is a symbol of royalty. Being a child of God, anointed and crowned with His glory. Chosen for a special purpose. The words “Childlike Faith” are a modified version of my five year old nephew’s handwriting! He loves painting with me. As I nurture his early art interests, I thought it would be cool to include him in this project.”

While her work could have taken her anywhere, she feels like “God is keeping her in Memphis for a reason…” and she plans to see it through. While it hasn’t always been easy, she’s painting the canvas she was given and it is surely turning to a masterpiece.

“It’s not easy being an artist, let alone an entrepreneur. Through all the sacrifices, tears and challenges, I’m still here! Committed and dedicated to my craft. Holding on to that vision God showed me as a child. This is a full circle moment for me – from going to all the Grizz games as a kid since the Pyramid days until now going to all the games at the FedExForum, to NOW collaborating with them! God is amazing. I’m so humbled and blessed to be able to share my “Childlike Faith” with you all.”
