Driven to Donate: Donate School Supplies at Chuck Hutton Toyota

Last year in August, just as classrooms at A. Maceo Walker Middle School were planning and preparing for students, there was a need for extra school supplies.

The Chuck Hutton Toyota dealership nearby has historically had strong ties to its Whitehaven neighborhood, so it was decided they would host a community give-back initiative. And it started with a school supply drive.

From August 28 through September 1, 2023, the nearby community dropped off enough school supplies to fill a Toyota Tacoma truck bed, which Chuck Hutton employees delivered to the students A. Maceo Walker Middle School.

Driven to Donate - Spring 2024

The latest Driven to Donate event is currently underway! The Spring Break School Supply Drive for Westwood High School (WHS) began February 14 and will end March 15 to coincide with the end of spring break. Partners for the drive are Mempops and Growlers.

The community is invited to make donations of essential classroom supplies such as notebooks, pens, pencils, markers, and other materials that will enable students to actively participate in the learning process.

A history of Giving Back

The team followed up the 2023 school supply drive with a Trunk or Treat for the Whitehaven community in October. Families, area schools, and others in the community were invited to come out to the dealership for tricks, treats, trucks, and more.

Over 20 members of the staff showed off their creative side with all-out decorating and joined in the fun by providing free candy to excited participants.

On Giving Tuesday (November 28), Chuck Hutton Toyota started a holiday clothing drive that lasted the month of December to benefit Hope House and Dorothy Day House, partnering with MemPops and Mempho Presents to accept donations.

“Our team at Chuck Hutton is very passionate about serving our community,” said Bill Webb, Manager of Chuck Hutton Toyota Business Development Center. “Our Driven to Donate Campaign is one of the ways we show our gratitude.”

Stay tuned! As the Chuck Hutton Toyota leadership team discusses Driven to Donate plans for 2024, they agree: it is important to all team members to give back to the community that has given them so much.
