1. MSCS BOOSTS TEACHER SALARIES

The MSCS Board of Education has unanimously approved a $28.4 million increase in teacher salaries for the 2024-25 fiscal year. This significant investment highlights the district’s dedication to valuing and supporting its educators. Superintendent Dr. Marie N. Feagins and Board Chair Althea Greene both praised the decision, emphasizing the district’s commitment to maintaining competitive and rewarding compensation for teachers.

2. Historic Melrose High Reborn as Orange Mound's First Library

The historic Melrose High School building in Orange Mound, Memphis, has been transformed into the neighborhood’s first public library after a $17 million renovation! This new cultural hub not only houses a comprehensive genealogy center but also preserves the heritage of the iconic highschool. This is only the beginning for the library–future plans include adding senior residential units.

3. $25 Million from FedEx to Propel Memphis Forward

FedEx is significantly boosting its support for University of Memphis athletics by committing $5 million annually for the next five years! This strategic move aims to usher in a new era for Memphis sports. The university’s facilities are also seeing major upgrades, with renovations planned for both their football stadium and the basketball arena! 4. Design Phase Underway for Orange Mound Tower

The Orange Mound Tower project is advancing from predevelopment to design and schematics! The unique initiative aims to convert a 10-acre site into a unique commercial and residential hub. The development will feature art galleries, artist studios, apartments, a recording and performance venue, multifamily units, office spaces, a courtyard, and additional commercial areas! Spearheaded by nonprofit TONE and Unapologetic, and supported by a diverse team including LRK and Aaron Patrick Architects, the project has secured $2.1 million for predevelopment. The project aims to begin construction by the end of 2024.

5. Tom Lee Park Ranks Among America's Top 11 Unique Parks

The “Life on the River” playground in Tom Lee Park, Memphis, has been recognized as one of the most unique playgrounds in the U.S., ranking third on Mental Floss’ list. Following a $61 million renovation, Tom Lee Park has reopened, drawing approximately 410,000 visitors who have come to enjoy Memphis’ beautiful backyard.

6. Miranda Lambert Set to Rock AutoZone Park this September

Where the Lambert stans at? The Country superstar, Miranda Lambert, is set to headline a concert at AutoZone Park in Downtown Memphis on September 28. The concert is part of the “Music on the Diamond” series, which showcases top artists at iconic Minor League ballparks across the country.
