Shelby County Schools Provides Summer Meals for Local Students

Thanks to Shelby County Schools, local students will have access to free meals all summer long!

Every Wednesday throughout the month of July, SCS will serve meals to students under 18 from 10AM-12PM at the following bulk meal sites:

  • Belle Forest Community School (3135 Ridgeway Rd)
  • Bolton High School (7323 Brunswick Rd)
  • Carver High School (1591 Pennsylvania St)
  • Dexter Middle School (6998 Raleigh Lagrange Rd)
  • Manassas High School (1111 N Manassas St)
  • Raleigh Egypt High School (3970 Voltaire Ave)
  • Whitehaven High School (4851 Elvis Presley Blvd)

After parents provide the name of their child and the name of school they attend, they’ll walk away with 6 breakfasts and 6 lunches that include fresh produce boxes from Palazola Produce Company and dairy boxes from Turner Dairy while supplies last.

Since the pandemic forced school closures across the state, country, and world, schools have continued to fill the gap to make sure our students are still receiving daily breakfast and lunches. In doing so, SCS has also expanded their partnership with organizations like YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South to set up meal distribution sites across the city, but they need community support to keep them going!

Right now, YMCA has several summer meal sites set up that provide meals for students Monday-Friday, 11AM – 1PM, but with the launch of the SCS District’s Summer Food Service Program, which began July 1, local churches, childcare providers and youth organizations are now allowed to sign up to become a meal distribution site for children in their own communities.
