Director of Annual Giving

The Director of Annual Giving will provide strategic leadership for creating, executing, and evaluating a year-round annual giving program which is expected to achieve yearly growth to support St. Mary’s programs. The Director will establish, cultivate, and steward both short- and long-term relationships with constituents to help educate them about the importance of the annual fund and other annual fundraising initiatives. The Director of Annual Giving will work collaboratively with all community and team members to champion St. Mary’s philanthropic efforts. The Director of Annual Giving reports to the Director of Philanthropy.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop a strategic and comprehensive fundraising plan and appeal schedule for St. Mary’s School’s annual giving program: the St. Mary’s Fund. The FY23 public goal is $1 M. Year-over-year growth is expected, and the goal is determined by the Board of Trustees.
  • Create and manage a robust volunteer campaign program to help generate gifts from parents, grandparents, and alumnae. This includes, but is not limited to, developing and overseeing the overall engagement of a St. Mary’s Fund Leadership Committee.
  • Create, execute, and administer the school’s St. Mary’s Fund plan.
  • Identify and deploy new tools and strategies currently not in use at St. Mary’s to solicit and engender philanthropic support.
  • Serve as the liaison with the Communications team regarding photos, graphics, design, production, increased marketing opportunities, etc. of all St. Mary’s Fund materials, both physical and electronic.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong mutually rewarding relationships with all constituents.
  • Prepare reports, target data, comparisons, goal summaries, etc., on an as-needed basis.
  • Provide support at school events.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director of Philanthropy.

Skills and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in fundraising, and/or direct response marketing, preferably annual fund experience in an academic setting.
  • Success in leading a fundraising program with demonstrated year-over-year growth.
  • Demonstrated background in volunteer management preferred.
  • Experience with Veracross database is a plus.
  • Must be able to work with and communicate effectively, orally, and in writing, across a broad range of internal and external constituents including faculty, staff, students, alumna, parents, grandparents, and friends of the School.
  • Must possess excellent organizational and planning skills and a superior attentiveness to detail; high integrity and professionalism, respecting the confidential nature of donor information and the School’s business practices.
  • Be able to thrive and be flexible in a dynamic and fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Must be available for occasional evening and weekend work.
  • Must have a positive public presence.
