Barback (Bartender’s Assistant)

FLSA Status: Hourly/Non-exempt

Minimum Hourly Pay:  $15.00 plus tips

The barback position is a bartender’s assistant whose job is to help bartenders keep service running smoothly. As part of the front of the house staff, barbacks may also interact with customers when the bartender is busy with other tasks. A multi-tasking individual, well organized, quick thinker who can work well with bartenders in providing them with support.  Honesty and Trustworthiness is required for the responsibility of handling stock, product, and barback services.

HOW YOU CONTRIBUTE:
·         Confirm beverage requirements for each event and ensure all expectations are met before setup.

·         Prepare bartenders’ stations 30 minutes prior to doors opening, ensuring they are fully stocked with clean towels, glassware, garnishes, napkins, and straws.

·         Maintain ice bins at all bar stations and ensure each station is equipped with required liquor, cold beverages, garnishes, and other essentials.

·         Monitor bartenders every 15 minutes and assist during intermissions, including transporting products between bar stations.

·         Empty water bins in portable bars between shows and keep storage areas clean, organized, and secure at the end of each shift.

·         Thoroughly clean and empty ice from Cambros after every event.

·         Provide nightly reports on low stock and necessary orders, with a focus on Wednesday nights for weekend preparation during Broadway shows.

·         Wear uniforms to maintain a clean, well-groomed, professional appearance while carrying out duties with attention to sanitation and safety.

No drinking, eating, chewing, or smoking behind the bar and limit cell phone use during working hours.
Confirm with supervisor prior to leaving the shift.
Complete any other duties as directed.

HOW YOU STAND OUT:
Preferred Experience and Education

·         Required: Availability for night, weekend, and holiday shifts based on show schedules.

·         Preferred: High School diploma or equivalent with previous relevant experience.

·         Minimum age requirement: 18. ABC Card desirable for barback position (or 60 days to apply after hire).

 

Preferred Skills

·         Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

·         Must be able to multi-task in high stress situations

·         Ability to work with little supervision

·         Requires ability to work flexible and extended hours including nights, weekends and holidays as required by event schedule

·         Must be able to lift at least 30 lbs.

·         Ability to climb stairs and stand for long periods of time
