Passion and Dynamics Concert with Taneea Hull, Clarinet
The Germantown Symphony Orchestra’s final classical concert of the 2023-2024 season will begin with Bernhard Crusell’s Clarinet Concerto No. 1 in E♭ Major. and will conclude with Tchaikovsky’s monumental Symphony No. 6 in B Minor. Crusell (1775-1838) was a Swedish-Finnish composer and was known throughout Europe as one of the most prominent clarinet virtuosos of his time. Tchaikovsky’s monumental Symphony No. 6 in B Minor is known as the “Pathetique” Symphony. Although the title of this work has become known in the English-speaking world as the “Pathetique” Symphony, the Russian word that Tchaikovsky chose more accurately translates as “Passionate.”
This show’s featured soloist is Taneea Hull, principal clarinetist of the Jackson Symphony, also substitutes with the Memphis Symphony and other ensembles throughout the country. In 2019, she and her husband, Dawson, were guest soloists at the International Clarinet Association ClarinetFest, where she also was the winner of the Internet Clarinet Association Orchestral Audition Competition. Off stage, Ms. Hull can be found in her clarinet studio at Germantown Baptist Church.
