It is based on story and ritual, play and creativity. Spirit Play gives children the tools to make meaning of their lives within the container of Unitarian Universalism. At Church of the River our Spirit Play classroom includes children in Preschool (3 yrs old) through 1st grade. Read more about Spirit Play here: <a href=\"https:\/\/spirit-play.com\/about\/\">https:\/\/spirit-play.com\/about\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We offer classes on Sunday mornings during the 11am worship service throughout the school year, along with multi-age programming on Sunday mornings throughout the summer.<\/p>\n<p>Teachers are responsible for creating a welcoming classroom environment for children in our Unitarian Universalist setting. They are responsible for preparing and facilitating weekly lessons curated by the Director of Religious Education while following established policies for Family Ministry at The Church of the River.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Essential Functions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Create and facilitate creative, engaging developmental learning experiences for early elementary-aged children<\/li>\n<li>Relate to a wide range of developmental and emotional needs of children in the classroom; empathy<\/li>\n<li>Collaborate with adults from the congregation serving as volunteers in the classroom<\/li>\n<li>Communicate effectively and compassionately with parents and guardians of children<\/li>\n<li>Give regular feedback to the Director of Lifespan Faith Development<\/li>\n<li>Maintain and report attendance records<\/li>\n<li>Experience in or at minimum familiarity with Montessori pedagogy and\/or willingness to be trained in Spirit Play pedagogy and methodology<\/li>\n<li>Attend monthly planning meetings during which Lead Teachers, Director, and others develop outlines for the month\u2019s classes.<\/li>\n<li>Help create and co-lead multigenerational worship with the Director 2-3 times per year<\/li>\n<li>Attend Orientation and Evaluation meetings at the beginning and end of the school year<\/li>\n<li>Pediatric\/Adult First Aid\/CPR\/AED Certification or willing to acquire upon hire<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Expectations on Sunday Morning:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Arrive in classroom by 10:30<\/li>\n<li>Review lesson and finalize classroom set up<\/li>\n<li>Greet children as they arrive<\/li>\n<li>Accompany children to the sanctuary for the Time for All Ages<\/li>\n<li>Escort children back to the classroom after the Time for All Ages<\/li>\n<li>Facilitate lesson plan for the day<\/li>\n<li>Supervise dismissal of students<\/li>\n<li>Tidy classroom<\/li>\n<li>Report attendance, joys and concerns to the Director of Lifespan Faith Development<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In accordance with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uua.org\/safe\/youth\/youth-ministry-hiring\">UUA Safe Congregations standards<\/a>, applicants who are at least 25 years of age are preferred. Applicants who are at least 20 years of age will be considered based on experience, qualifications, and ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with children and youth.<\/li>\n<li>Creative skills &#8211; in a variety of applications such as music, nature, yoga, meditation, martial arts, writing, storytelling, etc. We are open to various ways to stretch our minds, bodies, and spirits.<\/li>\n<li>At least one year experience, comfort and familiarity working with children and youth, multi-age groups is a plus.\n<ul>\n<li>Ability to recognize and respond to diverse developmentally appropriate behavior in order to create a safe and welcoming learning environment<\/li>\n<li>Ability to create developmentally appropriate curricula and activities<\/li>\n<li>Experience working with children and youth with learning differences and neurodiversity is a plus<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of and experience with Unitarian Universalism, and UU religious education\/faith formation preferred.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Experience with Google Drive (Docs, Sheets, etc) and some social media (Facebook, Instagram, MailChimp, etc)<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated ability to work with diverse people in diverse situations<\/li>\n<li>Ability to publicly articulate and teach UU values<\/li>\n<li>Strong organizational skills<\/li>\n<li>Patience, flexibility, and a sense of humor<\/li>\n<li>Successfully pass the required background check<\/li>\n<li>High school graduate or equivalent with some higher education experience preferred<\/li>\n<li>Effective verbal and written communication in English<\/li>\n<li>Pediatric\/Adult First Aid\/CPR\/AED Certification or willing to acquire upon hire<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Note that qualifications may be met as a result of lived experience, volunteer work, educational experience, professional experience, and\/or formal or informal training.
