WEVL has won “Best FM Radio Station” five years in a row, but has been entertaining Memphis since 1976. The radio station, which plays country, electronic, zydeco, world beat and everything in between is powered by volunteers and funded by donations. You can find them at 89.9 on the radio dial, and they also stream online here.
In just a few days, WEVL is hosting its second annual trivia tournament on Oct. 21 at 5 p.m. Sponsored by International Paper Co. This event, along with others, are a part of the station’s continuing efforts to maintain the funding that’s kept the tunes spinning for the past 35 years.
If you love music and want to try your hand at being a radio DJ, why not send in an application? There are several slots available. You’ll be volunteering, but you’ll get to share your favorite tunes with the city — and the world.
Slots that need hosts are:
• Monday 10-noon & 2-4 pm
• Tuesday 8-11 am (could be 2 or 3 shows) & 6-8 pm
• Tuesday & Thursday 4-6 pm
• Saturday 11:00 pm-Midnight
