WEVL has won “Best FM Radio Station” five years in a row, but has been entertaining Memphis since 1976. The radio station, which plays country, electronic, zydeco, world beat and everything in between is powered by volunteers and funded by donations. You can find them at 89.9 on the radio dial, and they also stream online here.

In just a few days, WEVL is hosting its second annual trivia tournament on Oct. 21 at 5 p.m. Sponsored by International Paper Co. This event, along with others, are a part of the station’s continuing efforts to maintain the funding that’s kept the tunes spinning for the past 35 years.

If you love music and want to try your hand at being a radio DJ, why not send in an application? There are several slots available. You’ll be volunteering, but you’ll get to share your favorite tunes with the city — and the world.

Slots that need hosts are:

• Monday 10-noon & 2-4 pm
• Tuesday 8-11 am (could be 2 or 3 shows) & 6-8 pm
• Tuesday & Thursday 4-6 pm
• Saturday 11:00 pm-Midnight

All music formats compatible with WEVL’s programming and mission will be considered. Call 528-0560, e-mail Brian Craig or download a program application now

Want To Volunteer Off Air?

Dedicated off-air volunteers do everything from answering the phone during pledge drive, IT support, soliciting donations, working at events like Blues on the Bluff®, clerical work, designing and maintaining this Web site, and much more. You are needed! Download an application now, e-mail Judy Dorsey, or call 528-0560 for more info.

Well, ok, not everything, but we try to keep a close pulse on the great things going on in the city, and it is our joy to share those things with you, three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday). No spam, cross our hearts.
