West Fight On: Cycle. Run. Walk. needs volunteers to help work various positions for the event that helps raise funds for the University of Tennessee/West Institute for Cancer Research.
The event will take place at Shelby Farms Park on Sept. 17 at 7 a.m., and will consist of a variety of activities throughout the day. There will also be a Celebration Village to provide participants with food, beverages, education and entertainment. A southern style breakfast will be served, with a Corky’s BBQ lunch. In addition, the beverage garden will serve Bloody Mary’s, Mimosas, and beer, along with soft drinks and water.
Volunteers are needed on Sept. 12, 13, and 15-17. Shifts are usually four hours long. Examples of volunteer positions are:
- Registrant packet sorting/distributing
- Registration
- Start line operations
- Event set-up
- Support and Gear (SAG) stop operations and food and beverage
- Photo booth assistant
- Food servers and bussers
- Finish line operators
- Event ambassadors
Volunteers will also have the chance to enjoy the Celebration Village and get an event t-shirt and meal ticket. Service hours certificates are available.

The cycling portion of the event consists of three road bike rides: an 18-mile fun ride, a 34-mile ride, and a 62-mile metric century ride. The run event will be a 5K run/walk for all ages. Lastly, there will be a 1-mile tribute/remembrance walk.
The University of Tennessee/West Institute for Cancer Research is a non-profit started by the West Cancer Center for the research and development of cancer treatments. Every year the West Cancer Center provides care to more than 30,000 individuals.
