Volunteer events in the 901 this March

March is when Memphis starts to shake off winter and lean back into community. The days get longer, events pick up, and there’s a renewed energy around showing up for our neighbors, our environment, and each other. ☀ If you’re looking for ways to give back this month, there’s no shortage of opportunities across the 901.

Here are just a few volunteer events happening in Memphis this March that make it easy to jump in and make an impact. 🙌

Challenger Basketball (Special Needs Basketball)

Mondays in March | 6:00 to 7:15 p.m.

Challenger Basketball with Germantown Parks and Recreation pairs volunteers with kids who have intellectual or physical challenges for a weekly basketball program focused on fun, confidence, and belonging. You don’t need basketball experience, just a positive attitude and a willingness to encourage, cheer, and connect. It’s high-energy, joyful, and a great reminder that inclusion makes communities stronger.

Rox Garden Day

Saturdays in March | 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Spring prep is in full swing at Memphis Rox. Volunteers help assemble garden beds and tackle seasonal clean-up, supporting the organization’s commitment to community wellness and outdoor spaces. Tools and gloves are provided, and no gardening experience is required, just a willingness to pitch in and enjoy a couple of hours outside.

Mardi Growl Bark in the Park

Saturday March 14 | Multiple Shifts Available

Mardi Growl is part adoption event, part spring celebration, and all about supporting local animal rescues. The City of Lakeland is hosting this festive afternoon at Zadie Kuehl Park behind the Pet Hospitals, bringing together adoptable dogs, local rescue partners, and plenty of Mardi Gras flair. Volunteers help with event logistics, greet attendees, support rescue groups, and keep things running smoothly. Expect music, beads, wagging tails, and lots of heart.

World Water Day With Wolf River Conservancy

Saturday, March 28 | 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

In honor of World Water Day, volunteers are invited to join Wolf River Conservancy for a pollution-prevention cleanup along the Wolf River Harbor and Greenway at Mud Island. This effort helps stop litter from entering the river system and highlights the importance of protecting Memphis’ freshwater resources. Volunteers can stay on land or participate by boat, making this a flexible way to give back outdoors.

These events are just a snapshot of what’s happening across Memphis in March. From one-time occasions to recurring shifts, there are volunteer opportunities for every schedule, interest, and skill set. ⏩ Find even more ways to get involved at Volunteer Odyssey’s full calendar.
