The season opens on September 18 with Opening Night at the Scheidt, an annual celebration that showcases everything the School of Music has to offer. More than just a concert, Opening Night is an exciting introduction to the year ahead, bringing together student musicians, faculty artists and ensembles for an evening that spans classical music, jazz, opera, contemporary works and more.

The Sound of Swing Returns
Jazz lovers won’t want to miss Southern Comfort Jazz Orchestra + 901 Jazz Band: An Evening of Big Band Classics on October 27.
This energetic performance celebrates the timeless sound of the big band era while exploring the evolution of jazz through contemporary works. Audiences will hear music inspired by legendary composers like Duke Ellington and Count Basie alongside modern jazz innovators. Filled with soaring solos, driving rhythms and unforgettable grooves, this concert captures everything audiences love about live jazz.
Mozart’s Timeless Comedy Takes the Stage
Opera returns in grand fashion as the University of Memphis Opera presents Le nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro) on November 20 and 22.
One of Mozart’s most celebrated works, this beloved comic opera has entertained audiences for more than two centuries with its unforgettable melodies, witty storytelling and memorable characters. Performed by the next generation of operatic talent, this production promises an evening filled with humor, romance and exceptional vocal artistry that continues one of opera’s greatest traditions.
An Evening of Powerful Wind Music
The University of Memphis Wind Ensemble takes center stage on December 2 for a concert showcasing some of the University’s finest wind, brass and percussion musicians.
Known for its precision, musical excellence and expressive performances, the Wind Ensemble presents a program featuring both cherished masterworks and exciting contemporary compositions. It’s an opportunity to experience the depth and versatility of one of the School of Music’s premier instrumental ensembles.
Celebrating Tomorrow’s Stars
Every generation produces remarkable young artists, and Rising Stars shines a spotlight on the next wave of exceptional musicians.
On February 18, winners of the University of Memphis Annual Concerto Competition will perform alongside the University Symphony Orchestra, demonstrating the extraordinary talent emerging from the Scheidt School of Music. Audiences will witness student soloists performing challenging repertoire with a full orchestra in an evening that celebrates dedication, artistry and musical achievement.
Popular Music Takes Center Stage
The excitement continues on March 26 with the always entertaining Sound Fuzion Cabaret.
Known for high-energy performances and professional-caliber musicianship, Sound Fuzion blends contemporary hits with timeless favorites to create an evening that appeals to audiences of every generation. Featuring outstanding vocalists, infectious rhythms and crowd-pleasing performances, this concert offers a fun and engaging musical experience that has become a favorite among Memphis audiences.
A Tradition Continues
One of the season’s most anticipated performances arrives on April 4 with the University of Memphis Choral and Orchestra Masterworks concert.
Returning for its second year, Masterworks brings together the University’s entire choral program and the University Symphony Orchestra in a remarkable collaboration featuring four choirs and full orchestra sharing one stage. The result is an awe-inspiring musical experience of tremendous scale, power and beauty that continues to establish itself as one of the defining artistic traditions of the School of Music.
Ending the Season with Jazz Excellence
The season concludes on April 9 with another outstanding performance by the Southern Comfort Jazz Orchestra.

Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, Corinthian’s professional journey has taken him through Mississippi and into Tennessee, where he has led large-scale communications, enrollment, fundraising, and public engagement efforts. He holds a Master of Healthcare Administration and a Master’s in Organizational Leadership from Belhaven University, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Marketing from the University of Southern Mississippi.
In his professional tenure, Corinthian has demonstrated leadership well beyond traditional timelines. His results-driven approach has led to early placement in high-level director roles, reflecting strong strategic judgment, adaptability, and the ability to deliver impact quickly within complex organizations.
Corinthian previously began doctoral studies in Health Administration, which are currently on hold as he pursues a third master’s degree at the University of Memphis, further strengthening his expertise in advanced marketing, communications, and organizational strategy.
He has served in leadership roles including Director of Communications and Marketing and Public Information Officer at Tougaloo College, Marketing Director at Pine Belt Mental Healthcare Resources, and Communications Director for Changes Resource Center. In these roles, Corinthian has led enterprise-level branding initiatives, institutional messaging, enrollment marketing, donor communications, and change management strategies. At Tougaloo College, he was instrumental in securing and implementing nationally recognized technology initiatives, including the Google Cybersecurity Clinic and Amazon Web Services partnerships, expanding access to workforce development and cybersecurity training in rural and underserved communities.
Across his career, Corinthian has collectively played a role in securing millions of dollars in grants, endowments, and scholarship funding, supporting long-term institutional sustainability, student success, and program expansion. His creative work has been recognized through award-winning graphic design, and he has contributed to multiple major motion picture projects in the Hattiesburg, Mississippi region, supporting creative development, marketing, and media production.
In parallel with his institutional work, Corinthian founded IDLE Creative Consulting, where he advises organizations and creative teams on brand strategy, digital engagement, advertising development, and media production. He has earned numerous professional certifications in digital marketing, social media strategy, leadership development, advertising and campaign design, and emerging communications technologies.
Outside of his professional pursuits, Corinthian enjoys creative and hands-on activities that balance strategy with craft. He plays guitar recreationally, values time outdoors through hunting and fishing, and practices woodworking.
