United Festival 2026: Cumbia en el Río Is Bringing 30 Years of Hispanic Heritage to the Memphis Riverfront

Memphis is getting ready to celebrate 30 years of La Prensa Latina and the people, cultures and traditions that have helped shape the Mid-South’s Hispanic community.

On Sunday, Sept. 13, United Festival 2026: Cumbia en el Río will return to Beale Street Landing for a free afternoon of music, dancing, food, art and community. The festival runs from 3 to 8:30 p.m. and is open to everyone.

30 Years of Community

For three decades, La Prensa Latina has shared the stories and contributions of the Hispanic community throughout the Mid-South. This year’s festival celebrates that history through the theme “Cumbia en el Río,” putting Latin music and dance at the center of the celebration.

An afternoon for everybody

The festival will have something happening throughout the afternoon, whether you’re looking to dance, grab some food or bring the family out for a day by the river. Attendees can check out local artisans, businesses and nonprofits while enjoying food vendors representing different countries throughout Latin America.

There will also be plenty of entertainment, including a Flamenco Cumbia performance by Olé Studio, performances from DLR Studio and guest dance groups, and music from DJ Bambino. Families can enjoy a children’s magic show and a Children’s Art Contest, while the more competitive crowd can take on the 10-person burrito eating contest at 6 p.m.

A Night of Celebration

The evening will also highlight the importance of Hispanic Heritage Month in Memphis. Representatives from La Prensa Latina, local government and the Consulate of Mexico will share remarks before the Consulate leads the traditional Grito de Independencia at 7:20 p.m.

Then, at 7:30 p.m., the Hernando de Soto Bridge will light up in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, accompanied by Latin dance exhibitions, cumbia performances and other cultural entertainment.

Whether you’re coming for the food, the dancing, the music or simply to celebrate with the Memphis community, Cumbia en el Río is a chance to experience 30 years of Hispanic culture and community in one night.
