Umami Amora: A Fine Dining Celebration of Black Culinary Arts, Creativity, and Emotional Intelligence

On Saturday, June 14th from 5 to 9 PM at Comeback Coffee, Memphis will experience Umami Amora—an intimate fine dining event curated by Daishu McGriff, also known as The Mushroom Queen. As a nationally recognized chef, culinary artist, and entrepreneur, Daishu is known for transforming mushrooms into deeply flavorful plant based cuisine while using food as a medium for storytelling, healing, and connection.

Umami Amora is a cultural celebration of Black excellence across the culinary and creative arts.

This immersive Juneteenth weekend event will highlight seven Black Memphis chefs, each contributing a plant-based course and creative element that speaks to heritage, emotion, and innovation. The menu will feature ingredients sourced directly from local Black farmers, including a partnership with Black Seeds Urban Farms.

A group of people sit at two tables set for a meal in an outdoor brick courtyard, savoring the atmosphere as one person stands speaking to them about Umami Amora.

The experience is anchored in emotional intelligence and community care, brought to life by a powerful team of Black women:

  • Kinah Burks and Cheyenne Gray of Leading in Life Enterprise Group, guiding a live conversation centered on emotional intelligence and personal reflection
  • Kayla J. Hardy Smith of Lilac Impact Services, leading all logistics and guest experience with excellence
  • Andrea Claxton of Lady Bug Delights, transforming the space through intentional interior design and decor that evokes warmth, elegance, and soul

Guests are invited to arrive in shades of brown, honoring the earth, our roots, and our shared legacy.
