It’s a yoga lover’s dream! Memphis Rox Yoga Festival, an offshoot of last year’s highly successful Memphis Yoga Festival, is set to take place on September 7 at a new location.
Last year more than 400 yoga lovers convened at Rhodes College for the inaugural Memphis Yoga Festival, a full-day celebration dedicated to yoga and community. Some of last year’s organizers have rebranded as Memphis Rox Yoga Festival and said this year they’re planning for an even bigger event, as they take on Mud Island River Park. The festival will feature more than 20 classes taught by local instructors who represent a variety of yoga studios throughout the city. The class offerings range in experience levels, ensuring that every attendee can join in on the yoga fun.
“We’re just trying to build on what we did last year and make this event great for everyone. Yoga is about unity and community. Sometimes with all of our different studios it’s hard to keep that community. So this is a good way to do just that.”
–Susannah Herring, Memphis Rox Yoga Festival Founder, Owner of Hot Yoga
Organizers are referring to this year’s festival as a transformative experience filled with celebration, music, and discussion. In addition to yoga classes, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in nutrition and herbalism workshops and discussions. Local vendors and food trucks will also be available throughout the event.
“It really is going to be an uplifting day and every one of us participating believes in yoga and know the power it has to transform lives. This, in turn, can help us transform our communities and our city,” Herring said.
A portion of the proceeds from the festival will benefit Memphis Rox, and help expand their yoga and fitness programming. Located in the Soulsville neighborhood, the Memphis Rox climbing facility strives to build relationships across different cultural, racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds.
