It’s the off-season, but like J. Cole said, “if I’m bettin’ on the Grizz, then I’ll completely double down.” Maybe he didn’t put it quite like that. But, the sentiment remains the same. It’s time for everyone in Memphis to be on their Grizzly.
The Memphis Grizzlies had quite an eventful 2024 offseason, but with some key roster adjustments we’ve now got a chance to bounce back from a challenging 2023-24 campaign. Here’s a full summary of the Grizzlies’ offseason moves:

The keystone moment of the Grizzlies’ offseason was undoubtedly selecting Zach Edey in the NBA Draft with the 9th overall pick. The towering 7’4″ big man, known to have dominated on an individual level at Purdue, adds much-needed size and a defensive presence in the paint.

Scottie Pippen Jr. and Jaylen Wells (2024 39th overall pick) led the Grizz to the Summer League Championship Game in July where we narrowly lost to the Miami Heat by just two points in overtime.

In free agency, the Grizzlies made another smart decision, signing sharpshooter Luke Kennard to a one-year deal. Kennard struggled with injuries last season, but when healthy, his shot to the rim is lethal.

Memphis also retained a few of its two-way players, including Jay Huff and Cam Spencer, to beef up some rotational positions. Fun fact: both Cam Spencer AND Zach Edey were named to the 2024 NCAA All-Tournament Team. Now they both get to suit up for the Grizz.

Derrick Rose officially announced his retirement, closing the chapter on an iconic career that touched the hearts of fans everywhere. DRose led the Memphis Tigers to the NCAA Championship game in 2008*. His final season in Memphis felt like a homecoming, a fitting end to a journey full of highs and lows.

So, last season, injuries took the wind out of the Grizzlies’ sails. Big names like Desmond Bane, Marcus Smart, Brandon Clarke, and Ja Morant all missed significant time, derailing Memphis’ playoff push.
With nearly the full squad back and ready to go, the Grizzlies are primed to shake off the injury bug and make noise in the West this season. Be there at the FedEx Forum on Oct 26th to be a part of history for 2024.
