Kathryn Heard knows what’s up in the name of fashion. She’s a senior at St. George’s Independent School, and already she’s designed a three-piece collection that will be featured at this year’s Memphis Fashion Week.
Heard was selected among many applicants to be a member of the Emerging Memphis Designer Project, a contest held for local designers to create modern pieces for the runway at Memphis Fashion Week. Only 10 designers were chosen, and Heard is one of them.
This collection really embodies Heard’s love for traveling. During her junior year of high school, she fell in love with design after taking an illustration class. From that stemmed her passion and creativity for the art of fashion. The inspiration for her pieces comes from a previous travel to Mykonos, an island in Greece. Her collection holds a mix of dresses, and a pant and top ensemble that fully incorporate that of Greek culture.
Heard’s pieces will be on display during the runway for Memphis Fashion Week Friday, March 27 at Memphis College of Art. This will be her second year at Emerging Memphis Designer Project, having previously modeled in the show.
All of the proceeds of Memphis Fashion Week help benefit the Memphis Fashion Fund and The Emerging Memphis Designer Project. Go ahead and buy your tickets now!
