After being in Memphis for almost a year, La Guadalupana was instilled in my brain from the radio and locals recommending it. In the search for authentic mexican food in Memphis, I decided to give the restaurant a go. Located on Summer Avenue in the neighborhood of Berclair, Guadalupana definitely lived up to its name.
I was very surprised to see they serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, which instantly scored points in my book. Their menu offers true hispanic dishes such as tongue tacos, tripe, and salsa verde. Only eating seafood and vegetables, pescetarian, I decided to stick to a shrimp quesadilla. Which was phenomenal! When you only eat seafood as a protein source, your pallet is trained to taste fresh seafood, and La Guadalupana may have the freshest in Memphis. I was already stuffed from the delicious homemade salsa with fresh cilantro and house chips, but I couldn’t resist the shrimp quesadilla layered with white queso cheese and didn’t leave one morsel on the plate.
The service was extremely helpful and fast. They even brought a to go box to me, before they realized I wasn’t leaving any food on the table. The prices weren’t high at all compared to the massive portions you receive.
I added La Guadalupana to my list of Memphis favorites. I even went back the next day and enjoyed a fish taco. Which for lack of a better term, was OFF THE CHAIN. It is served with cilantro, lemon, and onion. Traditional, and easy, just the way I like it.
