Tap into the Science of Beer at MoSH

Article was written by Carrie Pinkley.

You’re invited to fill your cup with hops and your head with knowledge as you dive into the Science of Beer the Museum of Science and History on January 14th!

Here are 5 things you can expect:

1. Plenty of beer stations (obviously

On the local line-up, we’ve got Beale St. Brewing, Bluff City Brewers and Connoisseurs, Boscos, Cooper House Project, Crosstown Brewing, Ghost River Brewing, Grind City River, Hampline Brewing, High Cotton, Hook Point, Meddlesome Brewing, Memphis Made, Mississippi Ale House, Soul & Spirits, and Wiseacre Brewing who will be pouring it up.

Regional breweries such as Nashville’s Yazoo Brewing, Hi-Wire Brewing from Asheville, North Carolina, Southern Prohibition from Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and Diamond Bear Brewing from Little Rock will also be on the scene ready to serve.

2. Food Vendors:

What is beer without food? A hangover waiting to happen, that’s what! Your options include many local favorites such as Gus’s, Leonard’s, Maciel’s, One and Only BBQ, Patrick’s, RP Tracks, Frost Bake Shop and J. Brooks Coffee.

3. Mini lectures:

Who knew that ales could be so academic?? Clark Ortkiese, Co-founder of Crosstown Brewing, will be speaking on “the seasonality of beer” explaining why our tastes change. While Wes Osier, Master Brewer at Hampline Brewing, will be teaching “The evolution of IPA’s from very early British style to the ‘Americanized’ hazy version” and how/why this occurred.

4. Educational components:

The educational opportunities aren’t limited to the lectures brought to you by local beer buffs! There’ll be multiple science areas set up by MoSH and local science groups prepared to explain the science behind each of those satisfying sips.

5. Game time!

Something about the carbonation in beer births cornhole champions. If that game doesn’t get you going, there’ll be other beer-themed activities on deck!

Obviously diving deeper into education is recommended for all ages, but this type of learning is only suitable for those 21 and over. IDs will be checked at the door. Three levels of tickets will be offered: General Admission, VIP Admission, and designated driver (safety first!)

I’m hoptomistic it’ll be a great night.

Purchase tickets here.

All proceeds go to fund MoSH education and outreach programs.
