The Soulsville Foundation’s Stax Museum of American Soul Music and Stax Music Academy are celebrating African American Music Appreciation Month in June with live concerts, living exhibits, workshops, and more.

Calvin Stovall, CEO of the Soulsville Foundation, said, “While we certainly celebrate African-American music every day here at Soulsville, we feel it is important to continue this time-honored tradition by creating even more unique programming to help celebrate this special month.’

The Soulsville Foundation list of African-American Music Appreciation Month events includes:

  • Live in Studio A | June 7, 14, 21, 28 & July 5 (Tuesdays) from 2pm – 4pm
    • Featuring the Stax Music Academy Alumni Band
    • FREE for all Shelby County Residents
  • Real Love; No Drama | June 9 from 7pm-8:30pm
    • Featuring the music of Mary J. Blige and a conversation with author Danny Alexander
    • FREE
  • The Women of Stax | June 16 from 7pm-8pm
    • A Memphis music living history program
    • Presented by Karen Moore, Inc.
    • FREE
  • Soulsville Record Swap | June 18 11am-5pm
    • Buy, sell, and trade LPs and 45s
    • Will have food trucks present
    • $5.00 admission; $10.00 early bird admission at 10:00 am; FREE with regular museum admission
  • Stax Summer Concert at the Shell | June 25
    • Details to come; will be at the Levitt Shell
