Ashley Mooney of local company GeoSpace LLC developed and this week released the Smart Gov Memphis app free for iPhone (with support for the Android and Windows platforms on the way).
True to its name, the app is a smart way for citizens to access resources from the city government. With one touch calling to various departments of the city government, emergency service reports, sanitation service announcements, the app makes the City of Memphis more accessible than ever. The Mayor even has his own category with links to videos from ACTV (the Mayor’s official video channel).
One of the coolest features of the app is the PIC/FIX tool. If you spot a problem — a traffic light out, an overflowing sewer, or a pothole, for example — snap a picture with your phone, and send the picture to the City of Memphis via PIC/FIX. The city will then have the picture of the problem and the geo-tag, know where the issue is, and be able to address it appropriately.
