During MLK Day weekend, honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and legacy by volunteering for various service projects across the Mid-South.

Volunteer Memphis and Leadership Memphis are partnering with several nonprofit and community organizations to host MLK Days of Service January 18 – 21. For those four days, there will be a range of service projects running simultaneously in all ten Mid-South counties. There are plenty of options both indoors or outdoors, and volunteers can participate in everything from beautification and cleanups to reading to children, letter writing, organizing donations for food drives and other fundraising event support, and more.

Dr. King believed in a nation of freedom and justice for all and encouraged all citizens to live up to the purpose and potential of America by applying the principles of nonviolence to make this country a better place to live,” said Andrea Hill, Director of Volunteer Memphis. “MLK Days of Service are a way to transform Dr. King’s life and teachings into community action that helps solve social problems by empowering individuals, strengthening communities, and bridging barriers.”

Each day has a theme:

FRIDAY, JAN. 18 – YOUTH & EDUCATION

Read to a classroom, host a field day, work in an afterschool program, or contact Volunteer Memphis about a customized experience.

SATURDAY, JAN. 19 – FAMILY & FRIENDS

Special projects will be available for volunteers of all ages.

SUNDAY, JAN. 20 – SERVICE SUNDAY

Work with your church or local community centers to serve the needs of others on Sunday. Volunteer Memphis is working with faith-based institutions to create volunteer opportunities during the afternoon following worship services.
