Now is the Time. Memphis is the Place.

Shelby Farms Dog Park: The Outback

ava3There is a place in Memphis that I have come to absolutely love for so many reasons.

One of the many reasons I love The Outback at Shelby Farms Dog Park is because of the beautiful diversity among fellow dog owners… and dogs. Visiting Shelby Farms Dog Park has become a weekly “date night” for my husband and I. We are always looking forward to meeting new people and pups.

It can be easy for me to get stuck in my own “bubble”- hanging out with the same people, eating at the same places, doing the same things. The Outback reminds me of how we are all uniquely and wonderfully made and gives me the opportunity to remember that this city is so much bigger than I am.ava-2

If you have been reading my Year One blogs for any amount of time, you already know that I am an avid dog lover. I love dogs for so many reasons, but one of the most important reasons is that I believe dogs can teach us a lot about how to love humanity. Dogs are loyal in the face of adversity, dogs are trustworthy and they are great listeners. They are always excited to see you and they love all people.

In a time when it seems like there are so many things that divide us, I love escaping to Shelby Farms Dog Park for a few moments to see a picture of what things are supposed to look like, people and dogs of all types living in harmony together, and having fun while doing it!

ava-1Shelby Farms Dog Park is like no other dog park in the city! The Outback provides more than 100 acres that are designated for off-leash activities. There are 4-5 beautiful lake areas, luscious rolling hills, hiking trails and a doggie wash station.

If you’re looking to escape from your “bubble” and want to see beautiful scenery and people and dogs interacting with each other, even if you are not a dog lover, you will love The Outback and Shelby Farms Dog Park!
