Satellite Music Hall Breaks Ground at Crosstown, Partnering with Stax Music Academy to Amplify Memphis Sound

A new era of live music in Memphis officially began today as Crosstown Concourse, in partnership with Live Nation and Stax Music Academy, broke ground on Satellite Music Hall—a state-of-the-art, 30,000-square-foot venue set to bring world-class performances, local talent, and 150 new jobs to the city.

With an emotional speech from Stax Music Academy student Zipporah Israel, a powerful message was shared: Memphis music is not just a legacy—it’s a future. As she spoke about her transformative experience at Stax, her voice wavered with tears. She hopes more students that look like her have the same great experience she had.

The groundbreaking ceremony, hosted in the Crosstown Concourse Central Atrium, brought together some of Memphis’ most influential voices, including Memphis Mayor Paul Young, City Councilwoman Michalyn Easter-Thomas, and leaders from Crosstown Concourse, Live Nation, and Soulsville Foundation.

A Music Hall with a Mission

Memphis is no stranger to iconic music venues. From Beale Street’s juke joints to the historic Orpheum, the city’s musical heartbeat is as strong as ever. But Satellite Music Hall is bringing something new to the scene: a platform for young, local talent to shine.

With Stax Music Academy as a key partner, the venue is committed to investing in the next generation of Memphis musicians. Students will have the opportunity to train, perform, and collaborate in a professional setting, gaining real-world experience in the music industry. The academy, known for carrying on the legacy of Stax Records, has already launched countless young artists onto national and international stages. Now, with Satellite Music Hall, those artists have a home base in Memphis to share their talents with the world.

A Boost for Memphis Jobs & Economy

In addition to amplifying Memphis’ music scene, Satellite Music Hall will create 150 new jobs, bringing employment opportunities to the city.

Live Nation, the global powerhouse behind some of the biggest names and concerts in entertainment, will bring high-caliber talent to Satellite Music Hall, positioning it as a premier live music destination in the Southeast.

The Future Sounds Like Memphis

The name Satellite Music Hall is a nod to Satellite Records, the original name of Stax Records before it became the legendary label we know today. That deep-rooted connection between past and present is at the heart of this project. Get ready for a new era of live music at Crosstown Concourse!
