To mark its 60th anniversary and give back to the Memphis community, Royal Studios is presenting a free concert on 10/14 at the Levitt Shell. The concert will celebrate some of the modern sounds of Memphis being recorded at the legendary studio.
“I’m excited to feature some of the local and emerging talent that has recorded at Royal Studios,” says Royal co-owner Boo Mitchell. “This line-up really shows off what’s coming out of the studio right now. As we celebrate the history throughout 60 years, it’s so important to us to look forward and give a platform to the new sounds that we’re creating, and to do it at the Levitt Shell as our gift to Memphis to say thank you for 60 years.”
Performing artists include:
- Barbara Blue
- Devil Train
- Deering and Down
- Joe Schicke
- Gangsta Blac
- Keia Johnson
- Mike Doughty
- The Rusty Pieces

Then, the countdown will be on to Nov. 18, when Sixty Soulful Years will take over the historic Orpheum Theatre in downtown Memphis. Not surprisingly, the house band for the evening will be the inimitable Hi Rhythm, the backbone of the Memphis sound. Serving as musical director for the evening will be drummer and producer Steve Jordan (Keith Richards, Robert Cray, Boz Scaggs, John Mayer).
“This night is going to be a musical journey through Royal’s past, present and Royal’s future,” Mitchell says. “And with the amount of unbelievable talent we will have on one stage it’s also guaranteed to be just an unforgettable night of music. I can’t think of a better way for us to cap off this year of celebrations.”
Artists appearing will be announced soon.
