Riverside Drive Bike Lane Named Among Best of 2014

Memphis’ reputation as a city on the move is growing as yet another “Best of..” list included a Bluff City bike lane project. People for Bikes named the Riverside Drive bike lane project as one of the top 10 in the country in the past year(2014). Read some of the what the writers had to say about the project:

“[Memphis] reasons that there’s no better way to make its planning process public than to rapidly get a project on the ground, listen to the ways people react to it, and adjust as needed. “Ready, fire, aim,” Memphis planner Kyle Wagenschutz says. Riverside Drive is a perfect example of that agile approach.”

You can read the whole article here. This is the second year in a row Memphis made the annual list. We’ve also been the focus of praise from multiple other outlets over the past couple years for it’s work to implement hundreds of new miles of bike lanes. Not everyone is a fan though, recent public meetings have demonstrated some who live nearby are not happy with the current configuration.

Regardless of your opinion, bike culture and usage are on the rise in Memphis. Whether it be via the bikesploitation festival

Or the number of rides organized around the city…

Or the number of new bike commuters on the roads all around the city…
