Revisiting Casablanca

Okay… I’m not gonna lie, I didn’t love Casablanca the first time I tried it and I am very thankful that I decided to go back.

I think my Americanized taste buds got the best of me. I wasn’t sure what exactly I ordered but I remember expecting something different because of the type of lamb meat I am used to. A group of friends were going out to eat this weekend and I didn’t want to be the bum who said I didn’t want to go there, so I decided to give it another shot.

I always loved the atmosphere and this time since the weather was so beautiful, we decided to sit out on the wood deck. I love the simplicity of the deck but I also love that it feels tucked away beneath the trees. When you are out there you tend to forget that there is a busy street right next to you (Madison).

I love hummus so we decided to order the hummus and falafel platter. It was AMAZING! The pita they brought out was warm and the falafel was so delicious. There were five of us (and we were hungry) and the platter was certainly enough for all of us. For my main dish, I ordered the lamb shawerma platter, which was something different than what I had previously ordered. They were super speedy in getting the food out to us and the staff was incredibly kind. You can tell that they take a lot of pride in the business. The owner greeted us and checked on us several times to make sure we were doing okay.

The shawerma platter was outstanding and tasted fresh and authentic. It was made with rice, meat and vegetables. My friends told me that the house sauce was the best part, so I of course decided to drench my plate with it.

I am a huge advocate for revisiting a restaurant even if it wasn’t your favorite experience the first time. I think you should always visit three times before you make a decision about liking a spot. I am glad Casablanca exceeded my expectations the second time. I will definitely be returning!
