Red Bull Dance Your Style Competition Returns to Memphis

Starting Friday, March 24th, local dancers are jookin’ their way into the weekend, and you’re invited to watch during the Red Bull Dance Your Style Competition at Crosstown Concourse.

Taking over Memphis for the second time, the Red Bull Dance Your Style Competition is bringing together local and national talent from across the country as a qualifier for the National Finals in Chicago on May 20th.

There’s nothing quite like a global event making a local appearance.

The Red Bull Dance Your Style Memphis event will celebrate the diverse dance styles and sounds of the South. Hosted by Memphis’ own Queen of Jookin’ and founder of L.Y.E Academy, Ladia Yates, and New Orleans comedian DC Paul, the competition will also feature performances by Memphis Hip-Hop legends Duke Deuce and NLE Choppa.

Featuring top dancers who are world renowned for doing their own thing, the competition is sure to be fierce!

What else would you expect when there is no panel of judges (excluding the audience), no pre-selected songs or soundtracks, and—wait for it—no pre-choreographed routines. What, what? Yep, you heard that right—literally every aspect of the Red Bull Dance Your Style Competition is improvisational!

Street Dancers will tap into their intuition, feeling the grooves and edges of every beat, syncing their bodies with the curves and syncopations of each song thrown their way. The audience will play judge as they vote on which dancers advance each round and who will be crowned the Red Bull Dance Your Style Memphis regional champion.

That’s what makes this competition so unique, and so irresistible; the dancers have to check their inhibitions at the door and inhabit each sound wave that flows through the speakers.

Memphis is here to represent with many local competitors coming to the stage.

The lineup includes the defending champion of Memphis’ 2021 qualifier, Jadyn Smooth, local jookers Gangsta E and Trent Jeray, and many others who will have to defend their legacy against tough competition, including Detroit’s Queen Of Jit, Queen Gabby, Houston’s Prince Wayne, Pitch Perfect 2 performer Robo Steve, and more.
