You’ve probably noticed – the Memphis beer scene is booming, and it’s not just about business. An entire culture is forming around the appreciation of skillful brewing. The fever is contagious. Businesses are popping up from midtown to the suburbs where you can not only sit and enjoy a drink, but even fill up a growler and take it home. If you don’t have a growler, several places offer them below. Check out these locations in and around Memphis:

Inside the Cash Saver on Madison Ave, Taylor James has created a taproom full of quality beers. You can bring your own growler or buy one on-site, then choose from 30 taps of beers available for filling. If you’re new to the growler world, this is a great place to start. As of last month, Joe’s (well known for its wine selection) now features a fill station for your empty growler. The station is a beauty, too. And if you’re wondering what’s available before you get there, check out this sweet app that shows you what beer is on tap and how much is left! Located in Cooper-Young, Hammer and Ale (formerly called the Growler of Memphis) was an early arriver to the growler craze. Bring in any clean growler and take your pick from 24 carefully selected craft beers, many of them local. Hammer and Ale has been praised as one of the best beer bars in Memphis – you don’t want to miss it! Their hours are Mon-Thurs 2pm-9pm, Fri-Sat 11am-10pm, and Sun 12pm-3pm. Though better known for its impressive wine offerings, the Winery in Germantown is another great spot to fill up your growler. If you’re living in Germantown or just happen enjoy that part of town, keep your clean growler on hand. Different beers come on tap all the time, and you’ll never be disappointed with the selection from 24 taps. Corks has been filling growlers for a while now, and knows how to please a crowd. They constantly update their available line up, but always have something local on tap. Corks also offers the occasional beer and wine tasting, so if you time your visit right, you might get a little bonus treat with your growler fill. Liquor and Wine Depot in East Memphis offers a 10% discount when you use their own growler. Their hours are Mon-Sat 8am-11pm. Bonus: They are next to Gibson’s Donuts.
Whole Foods on Poplar Ave features an organic salad bar, in-store smoked barbecue and beer venue, fresh-made gelato, a scratch bakery, a self-serve juice bar, natural body care and nutritional supplements, and a growler station with 5 beers on tap. Wiseacre has only been open since August 2013, but you wouldn’t know it by tasting their beers. Brothers Davin and Kellan bring years of experience and education to the table, creatively dreaming up incredible varieties of beer. You’ll need a Wiseacre growler to fill up here, but it’s well worth the investment. Also note that because of their distillers license, Wiseacre can brew and fill high gravity beers. Boasting of it’s Southern heritage, High Cotton crafts beers that pay homage to the brewing tradition that produces high quality beer. High Cotton’s tap room is open Thursday through Saturday in the afternoon, and offers an inviting atmosphere perfect for savoring a cold one with friends. Memphis Made opened their taproom in late 2014, but it’s been well worth the wait. Located on York Avenue, adjacent to the famous “I [Heart] Memphis” mural, this taproom has wide open space for events and an industrial bar area to enjoy a variety of craft beers from this native brewery.
