Paris-Based Design Firm Brings New Art Installation to Health Sciences Park

A new interactive art installation is going up at Health Sciences Park this week, and there are two free events to celebrate it.

The Paris-based design firm Atelier YokYok is bringing a public art piece titled Dry Rain to Health Sciences Park. The opening of the installation kicks off the Memphis Medical District Collaborative’s 2019 event series and is part of their efforts to activate and enhance public spaces.

Treedom Memphis installation in Uptown

This is not the first time that Atelier YokYok has created art in Memphis. You know their work if you’ve seen Uptown’s Treedom Memphis. The strikingly beautiful public art was installed in partnership with ALSAC/St. Jude and the Uptown Community Association and functions as a gathering space that can be booked for events, btw.

Like the title suggests, the design for Atelier YokYok’s Dry Rain looks like rainfall or rays of light that intermingle with the trees and landscape of Health Sciences Park. It’s described as a “whimsical, abstract design that encourages interaction from passersby and fosters a new experience of art and nature in an urban environment.”

There are two special events on Friday, March 29th to welcome Dry Rain to Memphis:

Dry Rain Celebration with DJ Siphne Aaye

Friday, March 29, 11am-1pm
Health Sciences Park Pavillion

Experience the installation and treat yourself to lunch from food trucks at the park while DJ Siphne Aaye spins.

Happy Hour + Artist Talk with Atelier YokYok

Friday, March 29, 5:30-7pm
Wonder / Cowork / Create
340B Monroe Avenue

Meet at Wonder/CoWork/Create for happy hour and a presentation by Atelier YokYok sharing their recent projects and approaches to public art and design.

Dry Rain will be on view in Health Sciences Park located at Madison Avenue & Dunlap Street through April 12.
