Opera Memphis’ first show of the 2015-2016 season Pagliacci will be a great first experience for new opera goers due to references made over the years about the opera by the Simpsons and Seinfeld. On October 9 and 10 at 7:30 pm, both opera fans and newbies can come enjoy Pagliacci at the Germantown Performing Arts Center.
This opera focuses on a traveling troupe with the leads being immersed in a love triangle drama. The production is based on actual events too!
“Pagliacci is a powerhouse opera – one of the most popular ever written. It is a perfect example of how watching an opera can be just like watching a movie, with all the love triangles and thrills of a Hollywood blockbuster condensed into 90 minutes. Not only that, but people are always shocked by how much they already know Pagliacci. Its unforgettable music and supremely creepy clown are all over pop culture: from Seinfeld and The Simpsons to Rice Krispies and Taco Bell commercials.”
– Ned Canty, Opera Memphis General Director
Tickets cost $33 to $84, and student rush tickets will be available for $10 at the center on the day of the opera. There will be a 50 percent discount for anyone who hasn’t been to the opera before!
