Open Critique for Memphis Artists

SHARE

Are you a beginner visual artist looking for ways to expose your work? How about an experienced artist who desires critical feedback? Maybe you’re even someone who is just mildly interested in an artistic critique. If you’re any of the above, Crosstown Arts’ Open Crit series is something you won’t want to miss.

Organized in partnership with ArtsMemphis, Open Crit is a monthly critique that welcomes work from artists all around Memphis. Although the group critique of the work is lead by an experienced and dedicated facilitator, anyone is welcome to participate in the discussion regardless of level of expertise. Content can be either new or in-progress work, particular to each artists practice, and 15-25 minutes will be allotted for each piece.

  • When: Second Tuesday of every month from 5-8pm.
    • 4/14, 5/12, 6/9, 7/14, 8/11, 9/8, 10/13, 11/10, 12/8
    • 5-6pm setup time; 6-8pm critique and discussion
  • Where: Crosstown Arts, 430 N. Cleveland, Memphis, TN 38104
  • Cost: Free!

Participating artists will have the opportunity to introduce and explain their work at the beginning of each critique, but no formal preparation is needed. All participants should come with an open mind and be ready for an array of feedback; all of which will be given in a supportive and constructive manner.

If you have art that deserves to be seen and talked about, send the following information via email to Brittney Bullock (brittney@ crosstownarts.org) with the subject line “Open Crit.” Submissions will be accepted and scheduled based on availability. Artists are asked to bring no more than 8 pieces. There is no submission fee.

  1. Name
  2. Contact phone number
  3. Email address
  4. General description of the work to be discussed (i.e. “abstract paintings” or “video art”), along with sizes of work, and/or media types.

For more information please contact Brittney Bullock at brittney@crosstownarts.org

Well, ok, not everything, but we try to keep a close pulse on the great things going on in the city, and it is our joy to share those things with you, three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday). No spam, cross our hearts.
