Now open at 4615 Poplar Avenue (close to Poplar and Perkins) is a brand new type of restaurant that specializes in made-to-order pancakes and even has griddle tables where you can make your very own pancakes! Today I checked it out and am so very glad I did.
First of all the space is absolutely gorgeous thanks to GCD Interiors.
When you walk in you can seat yourself at a table or booth, or you can order items to go.
Staks offers griddle tables where you can make your own pancakes! They bring everything you need, and you can pick whatever toppings and ingredients you want then make the staks at your table.
Full disclosure: I am not a big fan of pancakes, but these were divine! Even though I could only eat half of them, my mind has been changed about pancakes.
Yes, that is funfetti in the batter! And their fresh squeezed orange juice is pulpy, fresh, and good.
I also tried the Gouda Grits which were super flavorful and went perfectly with my pancakes. The bacon comes straight from Porcellino’s and is OH so good.
If you’re not a fan of pancakes (or are looking for more healthy options), there are a large menu of diverse items like breakfast burritos, shrimp and grits, build-your-own omelettes, a la carte items, soups, salads, sandwiches, and greek yogurt with fresh fruit. Staks does offer gluten-free pancake batter and they told me if you want a specific vegan or gluten-free meal to let them know and they can whip something up!
In addition to the large menu already in place, I was told they will soon be offering “grab-and-go” food items for parents with kids. They will also be offering seasonal pancakes for the holidays (like sweet potatoe, pumpkin, and apple pie pancakes).
Staks is currently waiting on their liquor license and hope to have it in the next 3-4 weeks so they can serve their handcrafted mixed drinks. Just a few of the cocktails are: a basil mojito, house margarita, and something fabulous sounding made with hot chocolate, whipped cream vodka and toasted marshmallows which will be called the Cocoa Chanel. They will also be serving “Gotta Get Up To Get Down” from Wiseacre. They also have a full coffee bar serving J Brooks Coffee, espresso drinks, and nitro coffee.
Tressa and Bill Ogles are the husband and wife team behind the restaurant along with their friends Brice and Stephanie Bailey. The four of them partner to create a truly unique dining experience here in Memphis. Something else that is special to Staks, they do not accept tips. They value their workers so much that they offer them a living wage and in turn their staff doesn’t have to depend on tips, which creates a super cool experience for everyone.
Their hours are Mon-Sun 6:30am – 2pm and they are located at 4615 Poplar Avenue.
