More Than Just A Business

Building foundations for tomorrow is the goal.

From 2014 to now, the vision has evolved, the strategy has changed, and life has certainly happened but the goal has remained the same: to build the blueprint for others.

When I began this journey, I couldn’t have predicted every turn it would take. Like many entrepreneurs, I started with a vision of what I thought business would look like. What I’ve learned over the years is that sometimes the greatest thing you can do for your business and yourself is give yourself permission to pivot.

And I know something about pivoting.

I’ve navigated entrepreneurship while facing some of life’s most unexpected challenges, including a Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis, life-threatening blood clots, and even the closing of a business.

Any one of those moments could have convinced me that it was time to stop.

Instead, they required me to become more strategic.

I learned that a pivot isn’t always a setback. Sometimes it’s the very thing that positions you for what’s next.

Building the Blueprint

Over the years, my work has taken different forms, but at the center of it has always been people.

I’ve had the opportunity to work with entrepreneurs, nonprofit founders, emerging leaders, and individuals with incredible ideas who simply needed help figuring out what came next.

That’s where my love for strategy became even clearer.

I don’t believe people always need someone to hand them the answer. Sometimes they need someone who can help them see the vision, create the structure, identify the next move, and turn an idea into something they can actually execute.

That philosophy has shaped how I approach my work today.

Through A. Nicole, my work has expanded beyond traditional business services into strategy, leadership, entrepreneurship, community engagement, and creating platforms that allow other people to be seen.

Because for me, this has always been more than just a business.

It’s about building something that creates room for someone else.

Purpose Can Have More Than One Expression

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that purpose doesn’t have to fit inside one box.

Sometimes purpose looks like sitting across the table from an entrepreneur helping them build their business.

Sometimes it looks like helping a nonprofit founder take an idea and create a sustainable organization around it.

Sometimes it looks like advocacy and creating spaces of support and connection through The Release Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating, advocating for, and empowering individuals impacted by autoimmune diseases.

Sometimes it looks like storytelling through The A. Nicole Magazine, creating space to highlight people, purpose, leadership, and the realities behind the journey.

And sometimes purpose looks like creating an entirely new platform because you recognize that incredible people are doing meaningful work and nobody is saying their names.

That realization led me to my next assignment.

A. Nicole Presents: The Hidden Figures Awards

Before there was The Hidden Figures Awards, there was an idea called Empowered to Impact.

I knew what I wanted to create before I knew exactly what to call it.

I wanted to honor the people whose names may never trend on social media. The educators. Entrepreneurs. Community leaders. Nonprofit professionals. Advocates. Volunteers. Mentors. Servant leaders. And everyday people who continue showing up and making a difference whether anyone applauds them or not.

I wanted to create something that said:

We see you.

Your work matters.

Your impact deserves to be recognized.

That vision eventually became A. Nicole Presents: The Hidden Figures Awards, with a mission that says exactly what this experience represents:

Honoring the Unseen. Celebrating the Impact.

On Friday, October 23, 2026, at The Village at New Sardis Baptist Church in Memphis, we will gather for the inaugural Hidden Figures Awards to recognize individuals who have made meaningful contributions to their communities.

For me, this isn’t simply another event.

It’s another extension of the blueprint.

More Than Just a Business

Twelve years after beginning this journey, I understand something now that I couldn’t have fully understood in 2014:

You don’t have to build the same thing forever to remain committed to the same purpose.

Businesses change.

Ideas evolve.

Life happens.

Doors close.

New assignments appear.

And sometimes the blueprint has to be redrawn.

What matters is knowing what sits at the foundation.

For me, that foundation continues to be empowerment, impact, community, and engagement.

I’ve had to pivot. I’ve had to rebuild. I’ve had to rethink what success looks like. I’ve had moments when life forced me to adjust plans I thought were permanent.

But through every season, I’ve strategically positioned myself to keep moving forward—and to use what I’ve learned to help someone else move forward too.

That’s why I continue building.

That’s why I continue creating.

That’s why I continue making room for other people.

Because when the foundation is strong, what you build isn’t only for today.

You’re building the blueprint for tomorrow.

And that will always be bigger than business.
