Has any one of us accomplished what we’ve accomplished by ourselves? —
January is National Mentoring Month!
Just the mention of mentoring can make some of us wonder, ‘Am I enough?’ ‘What do I have to offer?’ We get it.
But there are so many young people in need in our city, and mentoring carries a ton of potential value. It’s a game-changer.
And the good news is that mentoring can take many forms. It doesn’t have to be intimidating, it doesn’t have to take up a lot of time, it doesn’t have to be super formal, and you don’t even have to do it alone.
Point is, there are many routes you can take to shape and mold the young lives in your community, and who knows—you just might speak the words of encouragement that help a young person launch to success. And that’s a real, tangible way to transform the city we love.
All month long Choose901 is talking about the power of mentoring in its many forms. Here are some highlights:
- Places to Become a Mentor in Memphis: “Oh you want to be a mentor? Who do YOU think you are?” is a series of questions we often ask ourselves. But we’re here to tell you that, for a young person in this city, you’ve got just enough insight to share, enough words of encouragement to speak, and just enough care to give. Check out this list of local mentoring programs that can help you spread the love to our local youth!
- On The Steps Video Series: Check out our video series below. We invited some prominent Memphians to take us to places that played a key role in their development and tell the stories of the people who influenced them to become who they are today. Hear each of them share about turning points in their lives and advice on how to pour into the lives of others.
