Memphis Made Horror Film Wins Finalist – Best Short Film

Dreams of a Dead God, the latest film by Memphis native and writer/director Jim Weter, has won Finalist – Best Short Film at the 2026 Bare Bones Film Festival in Muskogee, Oklahoma.

Making its festival premiere in January at the 2026 Cinema on the Bayou Film Festival in Lafayette, LA, Dreams of a Dead God is a 36-minute found-footage, cosmic horror film set in the world of HP Lovecraft. This also marks the 2nd award for the film after earning the Best Extended Short Film award at the Dunwich Horror Film Festival also in January.

Official Logline:

October, 1936: sanity and reality itself are tested during the filmed interrogation of a kidnapper and murderer with ties to an ancient cult.

“Inspired by the authors appearing in Weird Tales magazine such as Lovecraft, Clark Ashton Smith, and Robert Bloch. Dreams of a Dead God represents my own humble contribution to the cosmic horror mythos".

The next scheduled screening will be held on Saturday, April 11th at 5:00 PM at the Porchlight Film Festival in Jonesboro, AR.
