At St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, we are committed to advancing the research and treatment of pediatric cancer and other catastrophic diseases. The Medical Content Outreach department creates medical content for children and teens with catastrophic diseases and their families. The Together website is the department’s flagship product. Together is comprehensive web resource for childhood cancer patients, survivors, and their families – no matter where the patient receives treatment. The Medical Writer works with subject matter experts and the Medical Content Outreach team to identify, develop, and edit content for the Together website. This position is responsible for developing new content for web and other communication platforms and providing input on visual media projects, including video, photography, illustrations, and graphics to communicate information and concepts to patients, survivors, and families. Responsibilities will include conducting literature reviews; interviewing internal and external subject matter experts, patients, survivors, and families; and writing, revising, and editing content for lay audiences.

This role works collaboratively with a variety of departments to develop ideas and create authoritative, trustworthy content in understandable language for patients, survivors, and families. Applicant should have:

  • Extensive knowledge of English grammar with a familiarity with a standard style guide
  • Ability to communicate scientific or medical information to lay audiences in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to interpret clinical and other complex information
  • Bachelor’s Degree in communications, journalism, digital marketing, english or related field is required
  • Four(4) years of experience with medical or science writing, ideally with experience in life sciences and including web writing
  • Experience in a science or healthcare environment preferred
  • Experience with writing and editing blogs is a plus
