The Events Manager is responsible for developing and implementing events to meet fundraising goals and is a key stakeholder of the larger Sales + Events Team of Shelby Farms Park Conservancy. The S+E Team drives critical revenue to support the Park while ensuring “above + beyond hospitality.” With the help of visitors, donors, clients and supporters, the Conservancy works to raise and earn funds each year to ensure excellent visitor experience in a clean, green and safe park every day.
The Events Manager is an excellent collaborator who works with teammates, stakeholders, and other departments to achieve goals and deliver high quality events and donor loyalty. This position will drive results in two areas: (1) maximizing fundraising net revenue and (2) enhancing visitor experience through creation, planning, and management of SFPC events.  This is both an internal and external facing role that collaborates with all departments within the Park.


  • Seek to exceed SFPC event revenue goals while operating within budget constraints
    o       Currently scheduled events:
  • Starry Nights (end of November through beginning of January)
  • Canoes + Cocktails (Friday nights April – September)
  • Down to Earth Festival / Earth Day celebration (April)
  • Drive-in Movie (July)
  • Buffalo 15k + 5k (November)
  • Green Shoe Gala (TBD, likely February)
  • Plan and execute all aspects of SFPC fundraising events
  • Pre- and post-event reporting
  • Along with S+E Director, analyze business processes and identify opportunities to generate additional revenue through the creation of business plans with actionable objectives
  • Anticipate problems and develop appropriate solutions; investigate, analyze, and resolve operational problems and complaints

Assist with additional S+E special projects and responsibilities, as needed


  • Create detailed plans for successful implementation and maximum revenue opportunities of each event
  • Manage Run-of-Show and event timelines
  • Review, create, and execute site layouts with CAD drawings
  • Partner with S+E Team leaders and other SFPC teams to coordinate logistics, staffing plans, set-up and tear-downs for all events
  • Ensure swift response to customer inquiries and push to convert to ticket sales
  • Oversee ticketing / reservation systems and processes
  • Develop budgets, along with S+E Director
  • Control expenses to operate within the approved budget
  • Manage relationships with vendors and third-party merchants
  • Negotiate and execute contracts
  • Create written plans to communicate event specifics with SFPC organization
  • Prepare reports, metrics and tracking to support analysis of events
  • Partner with key S+E teammates and Communications to develop marketing strategies for event ticketing sales and/or attendance
  • Work with key S+E teammates and Development Team to develop and maximize SFPC event sponsorship value and fulfill event sponsorship commitments to ensure sponsor retention
  • Implement department rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Observe and report maintenance, repair and facility needs along with safety issues
  • Ensure the proper use and storage of all equipment and report necessary repairs
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies or urgent issues


  • 3+ years of relevant work experience in event fulfillment
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, hospitality or relevant field of study
  • Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Experience working in a Customer Relationship Management system
  • Demonstrated success in leading a team to achieve goals and objectives
  • Excellent collaboration skills
  • Superior oral and written communication skills with an attention to detail
  • Ability to work well in stressful, high-pressure situations including resolving guest complaints
  • Maintains composure and objectivity under pressure
  • Effective listener, able to understand and clarify concerns raised by team members and guests
  • Strong organizational and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays
