Memphis is poppin’ and not just because there’s a ton of events and cool stuff to do here this summer.
Here are six local popcorn shops with Memphis flair and unique flavors that you can definitely bring to your next movie night.
- Ty & Maddy’s (1150 Dexter Ln, 38016)
Voted Best Sweet Shop for the second year in a row in the Commercial Appeal’s Memphis Most Awards, Ty & Maddy’s popcorn is just as popular as their sweet treats. Visit their current retail shop on Dexter before July for 50% off popcorn during their moving sale. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for the announcement of their new location! Their unique flavors include buffalo wing, salty banana, mint chocolate chip, and more. Even crazier, there are mixes like Batman (a mix of lemon and blackberry), Hulk (green apple and grape), and Hello Kitty (strawberry, cotton candy, and blackberry). You name it, they’ve got it.
- Wolf River Popcorn Co. (Visit their retailers)
Even though Wolf River Popcorn Co. doesn’t have a storefront, you can find them in some of Memphis’ most beloved spots. Pick some up for your next cookout at retailers including Porcellino’s, Charlie’s Meat Market, Curb Market, and more. They’re specialty is a spicy or mild Memphis Mix consisting of caramel and cheddar corn with BBQ spices that just might trick your taste buds into thinking you’re diving into a plate of ribs instead of a handful of popcorn. Check their Facebook for appearances, tastings, news of additional retailers.
- The Peanut Shoppe (24 S. Main, 38103)
While the name doesn’t sound like it would be a popcorn hotspot, The Peanut Shoppe offers up some of the freshest popcorn in town. It serves basic flavors like original, cheddar, and caramel with the guarantee that each kernel is freshly coated in delicious flavor. While you’re there, be sure and pick up some of their famous nut mixes or chocolate to mix in with your popcorn to create a unique trail mix.
- iPop Gourmet Popcorn (420 S Germantown Pkwy, 38018)
If you find yourself out in Cordova, don’t miss iPop, a local specialty popcorn shop that combined their love of dessert and popcorn to make candied, caramel, classic and savory flavors. With fruity options like blue coconut and strawberry to savory flavors from buffalo ranch to loaded baked potato, there is no shortage of unique options that will make you want to try them all.
- Pop-A-Roo’s Gourmet Popcorn Shoppe (726 N Parkway, 38105)
You might have seen their booth at Spooky Nights, Starry Nights, or Shelby Farms’ Earth Day celebration. Pop-A-Roo’s storefront is located on North Parkway, and they have dreamed up an abundance of sweet flavors like Cinnamon Cookie, Almond Joy and Oreo Cheesecake, as well as incorporating some savory options such as The Real “Dill,” and Garlic Toast.
