Memphis Flavor Shines on Garden & Gun’s Hot List

Memphis has once again proven it’s a city where Southern tradition meets culinary creativity—this time earning a spot in Garden & Gun’s “Hot List: 30 New Restaurants to Try Now” (Aug/Sept 2025).

Representing the Bluff City is Kinfolk, a breakfast concept from chef Cole Jeanes that blends backroad comfort food with big-city finesse.

From Pickup Truck Biscuits to Culinary Craft

Jeanes grew up on sausage biscuits from gas stations after hunting trips with his dad, and flaky buttermilk biscuits at his mom’s kitchen table before school. Those memories are baked right into Kinfolk’s menu…literally. Their herb-flecked biscuits, brushed with honey, are the kind of comfort food that feel like home, but with an elevated twist.

From there, Jeanes’ culinary training takes over: French rolled omelets with a silky, jiggly center, and stone-ground grits crowned with oyster mushrooms, sunny-side-up eggs, and a chile-garlic crisp that wakes up your taste buds. Garden & Gun calls it “an ongoing dialogue between country and city,” and we couldn’t agree more.

Where to Find Kinfolk Right Now

While Garden & Gun’s piece references the Mud Island location, that space is currently closed for repairs. In true Memphis hustle spirit, Kinfolk hasn’t skipped a beat. They’re popping up every Sunday at Hard Times Deli in the Edge District, keeping their loyal fans well-fed and welcoming new ones.

Why This Matters for Memphis

Being featured in Garden & Gun—a publication known for celebrating Southern culture, food, and craftsmanship—is a big deal. It shows that Memphis continues to be a culinary destination.

So if you’ve been meaning to try Kinfolk, now’s the time. Grab a friend, head to the Edge District on a Sunday morning, and taste why Memphis is making national “must-try” lists.
