31 Events in Memphis You Definitely Should Not Miss this Fall

With summer winding down, it is time to prepare for the wonderful things Memphis has to offer this fall. From football to festivals and music, there’s something for everyone.

  1. Memphis Tiger Football
    • August 31-November 25
    • Memphis football is back and possibly better than ever! With huge expectations and exciting possibilities, now is the time to catch a game! This season will include great games especially a home game against the Pac-12’s UCLA on September 16, so be sure to take a trip (or 7) to the Liberty Bowl this fall!
  2. Levitt Shell Fall Concert Series – Free
    • September 7-November 4
    • What could be better than a picnic on a gorgeous fall night during a concert at the Levitt Shell? Be sure to check out this fall series which includes a screening of Mary Poppins, Lucinda Williams, and Memphis Renaissance:  Where Do We Go From Here (a collaborative performance with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra and New Ballet Ensemble).
  3. Southern Heritage Classic
    • September 7-9
    • Be sure to mark your calendars for not only this football game but the weekend full of celebration! This annual event has included these two football teams going head-to-head for the past 27 years! This is a much anticipated cultural celebration for two well-known HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) in the south! The weekend will include tailgates, festivals, concerts, parades, the football game, and lots more!
  4.  Cooper Young Festival – Free
    • September 16
    • The Cooper Young Festival is back this year and better than ever! The day will include local Memphis food, music, and shopping! 17 different musical groups will perform throughout the day on three different stages and vendors will be out in full force selling everything you need or want from this local festival. In addition, there is a run through Cooper Young at 7 pm the night before to kick-off the weekend.
  5. Grizzlies Basketball
    • Preseason: October 2-13, Regular season starts Oct 18th
    • It’s time to return to the Grindhouse! Get season tickets and single game tickets here.
  6. Nordstrom’s Rack opening at Poplar Commons
    • October 5
    • At the corner of Poplar and Perkins, new national retailers are preparing to open their doors to the Memphis community. Nordstrom’s Rack will be joined by LA Fitness, Ulta Beauty, Hopdoddy Burger Bar, and other retailers.
  7. Mempho Music Fest
    • October 6-7
    • This inaugural event will be the first major musical festival at Shelby Farms! With a star-studded lineup including Cage the Elephant, The Cold War Kids, and so many other great acts, it will definitely be worth the price of admission! Tickets are available now and start at $40.
  8. Crosstown Brewery Opening
    • Late November
    • A new, local brewery has recently announced they will be opening their doors to Memphis this fall. They will serve 10 distinct beers available at any given time in their newly built brewery and taproom located just west of the Crosstown Concourse. These beers are said to mimic the Crosstown Community and Memphis’ sights and sounds.
  9. Bruster’s Real Ice Cream opening on the Highland Strip
    • Late 2017 
    • With nearly 200 locations around the United States and a franchise 28 years old, this ice cream shop will bring a sweet treat to the Highland Strip! With their minimum of 24 ice cream favors always available to be made into an Ice Cream Sunday, Milk Shake, Blast, or simply put into a waffle cone, Bruster’s Real Ice Cream will definitely not disappoint.
  10. Wahlburgers opening on Beale St
    • Fall 2017 
    • This Gourmet Burger Restaurant is coming to Memphis’ most iconic street this fall! Founded by celebrity brothers Paul, Donnie, and Mark Wahlberg, this restaurant will not be one to miss! Be sure to check out their signature 15 condiments as well as vegetarian options to complement the famous burgers!
  11. Memphis Hustle’s First Season
    •  November through April
    • Memphis’ newest sports franchise, a G-League basketball team, is set to tip-off in Southaven, Mississippi this fall! With many details still to be announced, season tickets are available now available for all 24 home games!
  12. Belltower Artisans opening on Highland
    • Early October
    • Belltower Artisans’ successful pop up shop is opening as a permanent coffee shop and pottery studio.
  13. MLK Soul Concert Series – Free
    • September 1st through 29th
    • In honor of MLK50, the National Civil Rights Museum is hosting a free outdoor concert series for the community to enjoy.
  14. Indie Memphis Fall Film Series
    • Running now through October 25th
    • Indie Memphis host a Wednesday night film series every week this fall.
  15. Midsouth Fair
    • September 21 through October 1
    • The Midsouth Fair returns to the Landers Center in Southaven with your favorite carnival games, rides, turkey legs, funnel cakes, and more.
  16. BreakFest
    • September 23
    • This festival benefits the Urban Bicycle Food Ministry which delivers food weekly via bicycles to the homeless in Memphis. There will be food competitions, live music, a bloody mary contest, food trucks, beer, and more.
  17. Gonerfest
    • September 29 through October 1
    • Gonerfest is an annual music festival hosted by Goner Records, an independent record label in Memphis. The festival showcases Goner-related bands from around the world across a diverse range of genres in conjunction with an art show featuring works by artists from all over the country. There’s also a delicious assortment of food and beer including crafts from Memphis’ very own Memphis Made Brewery.
  18. Paint Memphis
    • September 30
    • Paint Memphis is a one-day festival that will bring over 100 artists to Memphis to paint the wall under the bridge at Willet between Central and Lamar, as well at the close by Altown skate park.
  19. Midsouth Pride Festival
    • September 29 through October 1
    • Celebrate with this annual free festival that is now a 3 day event featuring live entertainment, kids area, food and merchandise vendors, a brunch, and more.
  20. Monster Market
    • October 4 through October 31st
    • Monster Market is a pop-up retail experience in downtown Memphis, curated by Holtermonster, showcasing odd/creepy/weird stuff by local makers.
  21. Best Memphis Burger Fest
    • October 7
    • Best Memphis Burger Fest is the annual fundraising event for Memphis Paws, Inc., a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to creating responsible pet owners and supporting rescues and animal care organizations around Memphis. Enjoy some of the best burgers in town and vote on your favorites in several categories.
  22. Memphis Tequila Festival
    • October 13
    • Kick off the Halloween party season in one spirited evening at the Memphis Flyer’s first ever Tequila Festival. Sample 15 variations of tequila and chat with distillers while you enjoy tasty food options, fun party activities, and live music. Proceeds benefit Volunteer Memphis.
  23. Pink Palace Crafts Fair 
    • October 13 through 15
    • The 45th annual Pink Palace Crafts Fair is the largest juried arts and crafts fair in the Mid-South and will include plenty of shopping, demonstrations, food, entertainment, and family activities.  Advance tickets are available at the Pink Palace box office at discounted prices.
  24. Cooper Young Beerfest
    • October 14
    • The Cooper Young Beerfest will have over 20 brews to try during its fourth year at Midtown Autowerks.  Tickets go on sale starting September 1st. Each ticket comes with a mug and all you can drink beer samples. Every ticket holder must be 21 years of age or older with a valid ID. Designated drivers will get in for free, but must be 21 years or older with a photo ID. No pets or children will be allowed at the festival. Brewers from across the country will come to Memphis to serve beers to you alongside some local favorites.
  25. Soulsville USA Festival – Free
    • October 21
    • This event takes place in the historic Soulsville USA district on College & McLemore. Enjoy live music, dance demos, kids activities, food and craft vendors, a rock climbing wall, face painting, and more.
  26. Memphis Food & Wine Festival
    • October 14
    • Memphis is celebrating its culinary excellence by showcasing exceptional local chef talent and welcoming acclaimed regional and national chefs. Enhancing this lineup will be vintners, certified sommeliers and enlightening wine enthusiasts. While festival goers sip and sample from the best, they will also enjoy a buffet of blues, jazz and rock ‘n roll. This event will benefit the FedExFamilyHouse. The FedExFamilyHouse is truly a home away from home for out-of-town families with children receiving treatment at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.
  27. Art on Fire at the Dixon
    • October 21
    • Gather on the Dixon’s South Lawn for a festive fall party with a roaring bonfire, fabulous food, live music, an art sale, an auction, and much more. This event is 21+.
  28. RiverArtsFest
    • October 27 through 29
    • RiverArtsFest is a street celebration of original fine arts, real Memphis music and great southern food with attractions and activities for all ages. More than 170 fine artists from around the country gather to exhibit and sell their latest original works in what’s become the largest outdoors juried artists market and urban street festival in the Mid-South.
  29. Germantown Oktoberfest
    • November 4
    • The Germantown Education Foundation is hosting their first Germantown Oktoberfest. The day-long, family-friendly event will feature a commemorative Bier-Stein, a ceremonial keg tapping, a Biergarten, a home brew contest, Best of the Wurst contest, food trucks, vendors, live music, 4 Bier Mile, a corn-hole tournament and more.
  30. Memphis Grilled Cheese Festival
    • November 5
    • With a general admission ticket ($5), you will have access to Memphis Grilled Cheese Festival.  This is is a cooking competition.  Each team will be handing out samples during the cook off in exchange for a donation. There will be a box on the table of each team where you can give a donation (of any amount) and the team with the most donations will be awarded Fan Favorite.  These aren’t donations to that team, these donations will go directly to ALIVE Memphis Rescue and their adoptable pups.  Hi Tone will also be open will live music, two bars and a grilled cheese eating competition.
  31. Time Warp Drive In Movies
    • September 16, October 14, November 18
    • Have a movie marathon night at one of the few drive in movie theaters left in the country, located right here in Memphis!
