Memphian on the Move: Frances Moreno

Meet Frances Moreno

Frances Moreno is a true multimedia artist and proud Memphian. We are thrilled to add her to the growing queue of Memphians on the Move

Frances is not a native to the 901, but she is far from foreign to the artistic beauty of the city. When we sat down for an interview, she shared about how easy it was for her to fall in love with the city.  As a Memphian for over 15 years, Frances was intentional about immersing herself in the culture that fuels her artistry, and raves about how Memphis has shaped her perspective and her work. This Memphian on the Move has shown us the wonders that could emerge from a little imagination and a paintbrush.

"There's so much cool stuff coming out of the city, right?!" RIGHT!

Every since she could form a thought. Frances has always had the sight to record feelings best descirbed through the lense of a camera or the strokes of a paintbrush. She emerged into the creative world with a camera, capturing the intimate details our eyes usually glance over. During her time at Memphis College of Art, she expanded her curiousity to painting and various forms of mixed media, and flew from there. In other words, whatever Frances picks up, she can create something with. Talk about Talent! Today, Frances’ art emobodies vibrant contrasts, explorative shapes, and risk-taking forms.

A person in a red dress poses against a pink background. The image reads, "I'd rather be happy than fabulous, but if I can be both, that would be great," echoing Frances Morano's spirited Memphian ethos with a smiley face over the head.

Family members native to Memphis is what drew Frances to the city, but a vibrant, thriving culture is what kept her here. During her interview she emphasized how Memphis’ rich cultural atmosphere has inspired her work and fuels her passion for sharing creativity with others. Memphis artists and creators are the water flowing through this city, and per Frances, the 901 is not just a launching pad for great artists—it’s the hub✨.

Seated on the floor amidst a sea of art supplies and paintings, Frances Moreno holds a sign that reads "ONLY SLIGHTLY ABOVE AVERAGE," embodying her distinctive Memphian charm.
