Memphian Debuts as Lead in Matilda

Casting for the first national tour of Matilda the Musical has been released and 9-year-old, Memphis-native Lily Brooks O’Briant will make her national tour debut while playing the lead role of Matilda.

Based on the novel by Roald Dahl, Matilda the Musical has claimed international praise with 50 international awards including 4 Tony Awards and a record-breaking seven Olivier Awards. The musical also boasts Tony Award winner Matthew Warchus and Tony Award-winning playwright Dennis Kelly with music and lyrics by Australian musician and composer Tim Minchin. Lily, who plays Matilda alongside two other actresses, has acted in many stage productions and films. She will represent Memphis theater talent across the country during Matilda’s tour with her role in the musical.

Matilda’s showings in Memphis at the Orpheum are from January 12 to January 17. Tickets start at $25. Yon can support and admire the young Memphian Lily Brooks O’Briant during her national debut in her hometown.
