This effort will transform the two-block area along Cleveland Street – from Overton Park to Galloway – into a vibrant urban marketplace, as local businesses, residents and community organizations temporarily redesign and activate these two city blocks over the course of the weekend. The entire city is invited to rethink the character of the neighborhood and celebrate the art of the possible.
Spurred by the success of A New Face for an Old Broad, Cleveland Street is the first site for the MEMFIX initiative. More than 50 merchants and 8,000 people are expected to participate in this living planning workshop that allows people to test what they would like to see on Cleveland Street. New bike lanes and crosswalks will be added to the street, retail vendors will set up shop in vacant storefronts, and food trucks will form an outdoor food court. Bands and other artists will perform, and the event will culminate with an outdoor movie screening at the historic Sears Crosstown building.
