Meet Our New Intern: London Montaque

Dog mom. Family girl. Lover of (almost) all music. And completely obsessed with Jesus.

What’s poppin, Memphis! My name is London Montaque and I am extremely excited to be a Choose 901 intern.

– insert cheeky smile here –

Before I get too involved, I want you all to get a chance to know me a little better.

I was born and raised here in Memphis, which is the sole reason I have learned to love the city so much.

I attended Overton High, which is where my passion for the creative and performing arts was established. I am now a junior at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville – GO VOLS – where I am majoring in Journalism and Electronic Media, and minoring in Psychology.

A lover of soothing candles, succulents, and Smoothie King – I’m a firm believer that the little things matter the most.

I consider myself a big ball of sunshine, similar to the human version of a golden retriever. I like to describe myself as headstrong, caring, and awkwardly indecisive about  simple decisions. It’s okay, I’m a work in progress.

Writing, media, mental health, and music are a few of my passions. I believe mental health, specifically in the Black community, is extremely under looked, and I hope that I can use my knowledge and platform to bring attention to said situation. I believe music is a crucial part of our existence, and without it, life really would ‘be flat’.

When I’m not binge watching a new Netflix series, or cooking a new recipe that I found on Pinterest, I love exploring Memphis and visiting my favorite local spots.

Since I was a teenager, I’ve always enjoyed spending Saturday nights with my friends at Billy Hardwick’s All Star Lanes or catching the latest Marvel movie at Malco Paradiso. Las Delicias and Broadway Pizza are hands down the best when it comes to finding a delicious meal. Whenever I need to satisfy my sweet tooth, Gibsons is the first place I head to. The convenience of the shop being open 24/7, along with the inexpensive prices and savory taste, helps it to be the best donut shop in the city — maybe even the world.

During the warmer months, I enjoy exploring Shelby Farms, which happens to be one of the largest urban parks in the country. Walking or picnicking in the park is one of my favorite ways to spend a warm, Saturday afternoon. Personally, I believe there’s no better way to end the day than stopping by Jerry’s Sno Cones and ordering a Blue Hawaiian or Mango cone. If you’ve never been, I highly recommend visiting. You won’t regret it.

I’m excited to use this platform to bring a positive spotlight to everything Memphis has to offer. I will strive to bring attention to the wonderful people of Memphis, and how they are working to build and improve their communities. Memphis is filled with many people who have an array of talents, and their gifts need to be shared with the world.

I’m so excited to be a part of this team, and cannot wait to see what all it has to offer!

Join us in welcoming London to the team!
