Local Artists Take a Shot at NPR’s Tiny Desk

Cameron Bethany with IMAKEMADBEATS

NPR Music recently ran a contest for their popular Tiny Desk Concert series and Memphians stepped up to represent!

If you’re not familiar with Tiny Desk, it consists of concerts from recording artists who stop by the NPR Music offices to perform songs while crammed behind a desk. NPR films the concerts, and the result is a casual and intimate music experience with musicians of every stripe.

They recently invited musicians to submit their own tiny desk videos for a contest. A winner will be selected to do a real NPR Tiny Desk Concert and go on tour with NPR Music. Submissions are currently being judged, and there’s no telling who might win, but we thought we’d round up a few Memphis submissions so you can enjoy performances from your favorite local musicians or discover a favorite new artist.

Artistic Approach – “C’mon”

Brennan Villines – “Better Than We’ve Ever Been”

Marcella and Her Lovers – “Comment il se sent”

Cameron Bethany – “Uninterested”

Dead Soldiers – “Teddy Bears”

Caleb Sweazy – “Soldier’s Heart”

Nick Black – “Summer & Spring”

Reach – “B-Funk”

Josh Threlkeld – “Our Love Was Uncovered”

Who do you want to see win? Good luck to all who entered!
